Your voice matters: Help shape the future of data science and computational careers in biomedicine🧬

The INTEGRATE team have been funded by the MRC to investigate how to accelerate the support, reward and integration of data scientists in biomedical research and your insights and those of your colleagues would be valuable to inform funders and institutes.

Why this survey exists: Our previous research with www.x-net.bio revealed that data scientists in biomedicine often struggle with multiple career barriers including integration and career progression. We're working directly with researchers, UK funders, universities, and industry to change this. Our project partners are HDRUK, University of Oxford, University of Dundee and CRUK Data Science Community Support Unit.

What we need from you (approximately 15-20 minutes): Whether you're a computational biologist, biostatistician, research software engineer, image analyst or work in (or enable) any data-focused, mathematical or computational role within biomedical research - we want to hear about:

  • Initiatives that made you feel valued and supported
  • What helped you integrate into the biomedical community
  • Experiences that advanced your career progression

Your impact: Results will directly inform recommendations to funders and institutes, creating an 'inspiration board' of proven practices that work.

Your answers will be completely anonymous, and you can skip any questions you feel uncomfortable answering. However, we hope you will share as much as you can to help us build a fuller picture of experiences across the community. Results will be published at integrate-bio.org in spring/summer 2026. Your participation helps accelerate career development for ALL biomedical data scientists.

Thank you for helping us build a more supportive future for biomedical data science. We would be very grateful if you could circulate to any of your networks so we can gain a truly representative picture of ‘good practices’ that have supported diverse roles and experiences. Survey will remain open until 2nd March 2026.

Participants will be eligible to enter our prize draw for the chance to win a £50 voucher.  Winners will be selected at random and will be contacted soon after the survey end.
